Recipe For A Simple Life

Simplify your life, one day at a time

Amish White Bread in the Bread Machine

I can’t remember where I found this recipe, but it has quickly become a family favorite.  It’s just your basic white bread that I make in the bread machine and oven, but my family devours it.  Tonight I’m going to try adding cinnamon to one loaf for a fun morning twist.  This recipe makes 2 small loaves.

Amish White Bread

Add to bread machine in order listed:

1 1/2 C. Warm Water

1/4 C. Vegetable Oil

4 1/2 C. Flour

1/3 C. Sugar

1 T. Salt

1 T. Yeast (2 packets)

Use dough cycle.  When complete, turn dough out and knead for 5 – 10 minutes on a floured surface and separate into 2 loaves.  Put dough into a greased loaf pan and let rise until dough is about 1 inch above the pan.  This will take about an hour, but really depends on how warm the environment is.  (I usually set my pans on top of the oven while it is preheating to help speed things up a bit.)  Once dough is done rising, bake for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees.  When done, I spread butter on top of the warm loaves to keep the crust soft.  Finally, hide the second loaf from your family so that you only have to remember to bake bread every OTHER day.

Do you have a favorite bread recipe?  Now that I’ve “mastered” the basic white loaf, I’m looking to branch out into some fun flavors we can have for breakfast and snack.  Thanks for sharing!
